At the Potsdam Conference in 1945, serious differences emerged between the US, Britain, and Soviet Union over the future of Germany and Eastern Europe. The Soviets pressed for large reparations from Germany while the US and Britain refused to set a dollar amount. Truman also informed Stalin that the US had developed a powerful new weapon. Shortly after, the US dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, outraging Stalin. Following the war, the US and UK removed indigenous governments in Greece and Korea
