This case report presents a new design for a pharyngeal obturator prosthesis that can be used with fixed orthodontic appliances for patients with cleft lip and palate. The custom-made device was well tolerated by six patients and showed slight improvements in auditory-perceptive evaluations of speech. The study concludes that this new design offers good retention during orthodontic treatment and may reduce hypernasality.
