and they are set close to the relevant text. They are clearly drawn, well labelled and often self-explanatory, thus enabling the reader to ignore some of the detailed text if necessary. Part one, entitled "General Considerations", contains general information on histology, inflammation, wounds and infection, drugs, anaesthesia, anatomy, cardiac and circulatory failure and resuscitation, frost-bite, burns, vaccines and immunization, immunity, allergy and organ replacement. There are then 11 parts, each dealing with one body system. Parts 13 and 14 discuss infectious diseases and tumours. For those people who like to know how their body works or why they have ill health this book should be helpful, and its use may remove some of the unnecessary mystique and fear which is still often related to medicine and hospitals. It would be an excellent addition to the home bookshelf or the school library, and due to its clarity of presentation it may even be of use as a reference book for teachers, student nurses and first-year biology students.
