About this document
History of Basildon and Surroundings by Mihaela Avatavului is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Basildon was created as a new town in 1948 to accommodate overspill population from London after World War 2. It was formed by combining four small villages - Pitsea, Laindon, Basildon and Vange. Over 100 years ago, Pitsea consisted of run-down plot lands and Laindon contained rural roads surrounded by fields, before being redeveloped as part of the new town of Basildon in the late 1940s and 1950s.
