The views expressed by the State Ministers on the need for Commonwealth assistance in the field of mental health would be put to the Government. Dr. Forbes said that he had agreed with a suggestion by the State Ministers that a Mental Health Committee of the National Health and Medical Research Council should be established. He was optimistic that such a committee would do a great deal towards raising the standards of mental care and psychiatric treatment in Australia. It had also been agreed at the conference to have an expert examination made of the possibility of uniform Commonwealth
