What is Understanding Necrotising Fasciitis Risks about?
Necrotising fasciitis is a rare but serious bacterial infection that affects the fascia and surrounding tissue, often called flesh-eating disease. It is caused by bacteria entering through minor injuries and symptoms develop quickly, including intense pain, swelling, and skin changes. Treatment requires antibiotics, surgery to remove infected tissue which may need to be repeated, and patients usually require several weeks in hospital with around a quarter dying even with treatment.
