Electroluminescence was observed at an A&O, electrode, whose surface was modified by depositing fine particulate semiconductors of CdS and ZnS, when an alternating voltage of IO V was applied to the electrode. The electroluminescence spectra agreed well with the photoluminescence spectra of the deposited semiconductor particles. Time dependence of the electroluminescence and the current density was measured by applying a rectangular voltage pulse. A simple model was proposed for the electroluminescence mechanism.
