What is GND Density Mapping in Al-Mg Alloy about?

This study investigates the distribution of geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) densities in a polycrystalline Al-Mg alloy using in situ electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) during tensile testing. The research reveals that GNDs are generated near grain boundaries at small strains and later localize at grain interiors along subgrain boundaries and slip bands as strain increases. The findings enhance the understanding of plastic deformation mechanisms in polycrystals by mapping 18 dislocation types
