This study evaluates the societal-perceived health utility of hypertrophic facial port-wine stain (PWS) and the benefits of laser treatment among 262 naı̈ve observers. Results indicate that hypertrophic facial PWS has a health utility comparable to monocular blindness, while laser-treated facial PWS is perceived significantly more favorably. The findings highlight the societal burden of untreated facial PWS and the positive impact of laser therapy on perceived quality of life.
