This patent describes an all-purpose saw comprising an elongated saw blade with a helical cutting tooth and first and second gripping elements attached to the blade by connector members. The connector members can be releasably attached to the blade by coacting with the helical tooth, allowing the blade to be inserted through a small starting hole when cutting internal shapes. This overcomes limitations of prior survival saws which were dangerous or difficult to use and had blades that could not be replaced
