1) A study of 210 COVID-19 patients in Wuhan found that those with severe cases had a higher neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) compared to mild cases, indicating NLR may be an early risk factor for severe COVID-19. 2) Patients in the highest NLR tertile (5.1-19.7) had a 5.9 times greater risk of developing severe COVID-19 even after adjusting for confounding factors. 3) COVID-19 appears to mainly attack lymphocytes, especially T cells, as levels of T cells were significantly lower in severe cases.
