Tenkara is a traditional Japanese fly fishing technique dating back over 2000 years. It uses very simple tackle - a lightweight telescopic carbon fiber rod with no reel, and a level or tapered fluorocarbon line tied directly to the rod. Flies are tied directly to the end of the line. Presentation and accuracy are emphasized over the specific fly pattern used. Rods are classified based on their flex from softest to stiffest. Tenkara allows for accurate casting and coverage of hard to reach pockets in streams
