What is History of Rotary in Syria about?

Rotary clubs started in Syria in the late 1930s. The first club was chartered in Damascus in 1938 and was the first to conduct meetings in Arabic. Other early clubs included Aleppo (1945) and Lattakia (1954). However, Rotary clubs in Syria were banned in 1965 by government order along with Freemasonic lodges, due to the perception that Rotary was a form of Masonry. This led to the termination of membership for the four Syrian Rotary clubs in 1969.
