Kurt Riezler was a German public servant and philosopher who tried to develop a theory of politics that would prevent disaster for Germany. While some of his long-term judgments proved sound, his theories did not provide clear guidance in crises. As a patriot, he resigned in protest after Germany signed the unfavorable Versailles Treaty.
