About this document
Furfural Removal in Biomass Fermentation by pizitengteng is a document available to read on EtoBox.
This study investigates the removal of furfural, a fermentation inhibitor formed during biomass pretreatment, using the polymeric adsorbent XAD-4. The results show that XAD-4 effectively reduces furfural concentrations from 1-5 g/L to less than 0.01 g/L, allowing for nearly uninhibited fermentation of biomass hydrolysate with E. coli K011. The findings suggest that XAD-4 could be beneficial in continuous processing systems for improving ethanol production from biomass.
