What is Renal Tubular Effects of Antiepileptics about?
This study investigated the effects of long-term antiepileptic drug use on renal tubular function in Indonesian children by measuring urinary N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG). The study included 64 epileptic children receiving valproic acid, carbamazepine, or a combination as well as 30 healthy controls. Urinary NAG levels were higher in children taking valproic acid alone or in combination with carbamazepine, indicating potential renal tubular injury from long-term use of these antiepileptic drugs.
