This multicenter randomized controlled trial evaluated the effectiveness of transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks in providing pain relief after minimally invasive colon surgery. The study found that the laparoscopic-assisted TAP block was superior to placebo and non-inferior to the ultrasound-guided TAP block, but neither technique provided a clinically meaningful benefit compared to placebo. Consequently, the authors suggest that TAP blocks should not be a standard procedure in this surgical context.
