What is Thinning of Soap Films about?

We discuss recent advances in the understanding of the thinning behavior of soap films. A simplified hydrodynamic model is presented where the role of the surface elasticity is discussed. Experimental results for the velocity of circular horizontal soap films are presented, for both dilute and concentrated surfactant solutions. The stratification phenomena observed with the concentrated solutions are extremely complex and still only qualitatively understood.
