Taplin here makes use of previously unpublished source material including Elizabeth's diary, letters to and from her parents, to Mitford and Boyd, and to to her sister describing married life in Paris and Italy, which reveal the extent of parental diaproval for her spouse, Robert Browning. Due to the marriage, Elizabeth's father disinherited her. She went on to be a serious contender for Poet Laureate, the position eventually going to Tennyson.
