Shipped from UK, please allow 10 to 21 business days for arrival. Good, 1st Edition, John Murray 1957. Very Thick Royal 4to. Good tight sound square, no bookplate, ink inscription, light foxing limited to endpapers only. In bright gilt lettered red cloth boards, together with original unclipped pictorial matt dustwrapper chipped to edges and torn with some loss to head not intruding to text, stained to lower wrapper. Taplin here makes use of previously unpublished source material including Elizabeth's diary, letters to and from her parents, to Mitford and Boyd, and to to her sister describing married life in Paris and Italy, which reveal the extent of parental diaproval for her spouse, Robert Browning. Due to the marriage, Elizabeth's father disinherited her. She went on to be a serious contender for Poet Laureate, the position eventually going to Tennyson.
