What is Sodium Lactate: Dairy-Free Additive about?
Sodium lactate is a salt produced from lactic acid through fermentation of sugars and neutralization. It has a mild saline taste and is commonly used to extend the shelf life of meat and poultry by inhibiting spoilage bacteria and fungi. It can also be used to treat certain arrhythmias and low blood pressure. Though some lactic acid is produced from dairy like whey, sodium lactate itself does not contain proteins and need not be avoided by those with milk allergies.
