Bearings are machine elements that constrain relative motion between moving parts to only the desired motion by controlling the vectors of normal forces. Bearings are classified based on the type of operation, allowed motions, or direction of applied loads. Figure 6 shows the structure of a bearing. Spur gears are designed to transmit motion and power between parallel shafts and are commonly used in power transmission.
