What is Isaac Peral and His Submarine Innovation about?

Isaac Peral was a Spanish scientist and inventor who designed the first electric submarine, called the Peral Submarine, in the late 1880s. The Peral Submarine had innovative features like the ability to fire torpedoes while submerged and maintaining propulsion and control. It was launched in 1888 and underwent successful sea trials in 1889. Although the Spanish navy was impressed with the submarine, political conditions prevented large-scale production. Peral retired in frustration in 1891 and died in 1895.
