Can I read Morphological contrast and merger: ranuki in Japanese on EtoBox?

Morphological contrast and merger: ranuki in Japanese by Junko Ito; Armin Mester is a Arts and Humanities article available to read on EtoBox.

What is Morphological contrast and merger: ranuki in Japanese about?

This paper deals with ra-nuki ('bt£#, Va-dropping') in the potential form of vowelverbs (tabe-re-ru instead of tabe-rare-ru 'can eat ', etc.). By extending systemic and contrast-based notions originating in recent OT phonology into morphological paradigms, it argues that this ongoing change in current Japanese can be given a formal analysis that does justice to its functional motivation, which lies in an improved differentiation between potential and passive forms. Areas of interest: Morphology; Optimal ity Theory '(You) cannot exit from here.' We will develop an OT analysis of this phenomenon after a brief overview and preliminary considerations regarding allomorph selection.
