What is History of the Dance of the Arches about?

The Dance of the Arches and Weavers has pre-Hispanic origins as a dance to worship Mexican gods. When the Spaniards arrived, they changed the dance to celebrate the local Virgin. Currently, the dance is performed by men with bows and flowers to celebrate spring and ask for abundance. The dancers weave and unweave ribbons hanging from a pole that represents the tree of fertility.
