This study examined the relationship between periodontal disease and oral cancer risk in Southern India. The researchers recruited 350 oral cancer cases and 371 controls from hospitals in Kerala, India. Periodontal disease was assessed by measuring gingival inflammation and recession. Generalized gingival recession was found to be significantly associated with higher oral cancer risk, with an odds ratio of 1.83.
