We show an application of big data in smart tourism by conducting a case study on museum visitor behaviors. Based on obtained data of entries to museums in Florence, Italy, we apply a Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) model and a onedimensional Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model to analyze and forecast museum visit volume over time. Our results indicate that tourism industry can benefit from accurate forecasts with big data.
