About this document

Overview of Superfinishing Processes by Daniel Espina is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Superfinishing is a metalworking process that improves surface finish and geometry by removing the thin damaged surface layer left by previous processes. It uses an abrasive stone or tape to create a cross-hatched pattern and achieves a smoother surface than polishing. The process was developed by Chrysler Corporation in 1934 and involves slowly oscillating or rotating an abrasive against a workpiece to gently remove material in three phases, leaving a very smooth surface down to 0.01 μm.
