What is Reply to Saoudi et al. about?
secrete IL-4 and IFN-␥ indicating that both Th1/Th2 or Th0 sub-populations of T cells are involved in the autoimmune response in MG 15,16 . In MG patients, a predominance of complement binding Ig, IgG1 and IgG3, has been reported 17 but the role of Th cell subsets in the generation of these IgG subclasses is not yet established. Therefore, there is no conclusive evidence that the production of complement fixing antibodies in humans is Th1-or IFN␥-dependent. Taken together, our data suggest that in a situation where complement-fixing antibodies can be generated with either Th1 or Th2-mediated T-cell help, deviation of the immune response will not be an adequate strategy to prevent this antibody-mediated autoimmune disease.
