This study investigates the oxidation resistance of tantalum carbide-hafnium carbide (TaC-HfC) solid solutions under extreme conditions using a plasma jet. The results show that the T50H50 composition exhibits the best oxidation resistance, with a significant reduction in oxide scale thickness compared to pure TaC and HfC samples. A new Ta2Hf6O17 phase contributes to the enhanced oxidation performance by forming a protective scaffold structure that limits oxygen availability.
