Carl Rogers (1902-1987) was an influential American psychologist and among the founders of the humanistic approach to psychology. He developed client-centered therapy, also known as non-directive or person-centered therapy, which focuses on empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence in therapy. Rogers studied agriculture and religion in college before earning his PhD in psychology from Columbia University in 1931.
