What is Orientalism in Game Studies Analysis about?

The document discusses the Orientalist origins of game studies, focusing on the foundational theories of Johan Huizinga and Roger Caillois, who analyzed play as a cultural phenomenon. It critiques their Eurocentric perspectives and how their definitions of play and culture reflect a narrow understanding rooted in Western ideals, often overlooking the complexities of non-Western cultures. The author argues that recognizing these biases is essential for a more comprehensive analysis of games and play.
