The Government of India has officially recognized acupuncture as an independent medical system in India. An inter-departmental committee was formed in 2016 to identify new medical systems and proposed recognizing acupuncture. The committee examined the proposal in 2017 and 2018 and has now issued an order recognizing acupuncture.
