Jim Smith conducted a classical conditioning experiment on a baby to see if he could make the baby nauseous at the sight of bananas. He hypothesized that presenting a banana with a strong scent followed by a rotten banana to induce nausea would cause the baby to associate the banana scent with feeling sick. After multiple trials of pairing the banana scent with the rotten banana, the baby became nauseous even at just the sight of a banana, showing the classical conditioning had been successful.
