The purpose of the ITP TOEFL and Pre-TOEFL tests is to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. Each test uses a multiple-choice format to measure the ability to understand North American English. The ITP TOEFL test is given in a single session of about two and a half hours, which includes the time required for completing admission procedures. ITP Pre-TOEFL requires about one and a half hours. Both tests consist of three sections: Listening Comprehension—Measures ability to understand English as it is spoken in North America. Structure and Written Expression—Measures ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English.
