The legislative branch consists of two houses: the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate has 100 members with two senators per state, elected to six-year terms. Senators must be at least 30 years old and US citizens for at least nine years. The House of Representatives has 435 members based on state population, elected to two-year terms. Representatives must be at least 25 years old, US citizens for at least seven years, and residents of the state they represent.
