Myoglobinuria is the presence of myoglobin in urine, usually caused by muscle injury. Myoglobin is an oxygen-carrying protein found in muscle cells. Hemoglobinuria is the presence of hemoglobin in urine. Tests can differentiate the two by showing: 1) Benzidine test produces blue color with hemoglobin but no color with myoglobin. 2) Ammonium sulfate precipitation causes hemoglobin to precipitate at 80% saturation but myoglobin only at full saturation. 3) These tests determine if the cause is muscle break
