About this document
The Tulip Period of the Ottoman Empire by Uğur Saymaz is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The Tulip Period was a time of peace and modernization for the Ottoman Empire from 1718 to 1730 under Sultan Ahmed III. Printing presses, paper mills, libraries, and European-inspired fashions were introduced. Tulips became a passion and artistic motif during this era. However, high taxes to import tulips and pay for European-style court expenses angered conservatives. This led to a janissary rebellion in 1730 that overthrew the government, ending the Tulip Period.
