Coca-Cola was invented in Atlanta, Georgia in 1886 by Dr. John Pemberton, who first sold servings of it on May 8th. Though people did not like the taste at first, it slowly grew in popularity and was being sold in other U.S. cities by 1888, when Pemberton sold the rights to the formula for $500. Today, over 600 million cans and bottles of Coca-Cola are consumed globally each day.
