This study evaluates the effectiveness of activated charcoal (AC) adsorption in treating antibiotic fermentation effluents, specifically targeting the reduction of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD). The optimal conditions for treatment were found to be 30 mg/L of AC at 25°C, achieving a 52% reduction in COD and a 9.1% reduction in BOD. The findings suggest that AC is a viable option for the treatment of wastewater from antibiotic production processes.
