What is Comte about?

Auguste Comte proposed the Law of Three Stages to describe the historical development of societies. The stages are: 1) The Theological Stage, where supernatural forces are believed to govern the world; 2) The Metaphysical Stage, where supernatural explanations are replaced by abstract metaphysical concepts; and 3) The Positive Stage, where scientific reasoning and industrial progress dominate.
