What is Electrochemistry about?
Electrode potential is the potential difference between an electrode and the electrolyte. The Daniel cell is a common cell used to demonstrate electrode potentials. It consists of a copper electrode in a CuSO4 solution, a zinc electrode in a ZnSO4 solution, and a salt bridge connecting the two half-cells. Oxidation occurs at the anode (zinc electrode), releasing electrons, while reduction occurs at the cathode (copper electrode), gaining electrons. The overall cell reaction is Zn + CuSO4 → ZnSO4 + Cu.
