What is Scented Toy Engagement in Shelter Dogs about?

Shelter dogs were given preference assessments to determine which toys and scents they engaged with most. Dogs spent the most time with a stuffed toy compared to other toys. There were no significant scent preferences. When a preferred toy or least preferred toy was scented with a preferred scent, dogs spent more time engaging with the scented toy compared to an unscented one. Adding a preferred scent increased engagement time, suggesting scented toys could provide enrichment for shelter dogs.
