The foxtrot originated in the Victorian era as a one-step or two-step dance and was later introduced to America by performers Vernon and Irene Castle. In 1913, performer Harry Fox debuted a new version called the foxtrot, which became popular among social dance teachers in New York. While the foxtrot has evolved over time, it remains a smooth dance performed to 4/4 timing music with fluid movements and a transfer of weight across the dance floor.
