The Cavite Mutiny of 1872 was an uprising of Filipino military personnel at Fort San Felipe in Cavite led by Sergeant Fernando La Madrid. Around 200 troops and laborers rose up believing it would spark a national uprising, but it was unsuccessful. The mutiny resulted in the execution of many participants and the priests Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora, fueling Filipino nationalism that eventually led to the Philippine Revolution of 1896.
