mortality. Linear correlations between NET components and haemostatic parameters demonstrated that cf-gDNA is strongly associated with VWF (r=0.74) and D-dimer (r=0.70), and MPO-DNA also correlates with VWF (r=0.53) and D-dimer (r=0.50) (figure ). Discussion These data reveal that there is excessive coagulation activation as cirrhosis severity worsens. In parallel, cf-gDNA in systemic circulation was notably elevated in ACLF, which we hypothesise is related to increased cell death, and which correlates strongly with coagulation activation and endothelial cell activation. These results may indicate that cf-gDNA and NETs partially compensate for decreases in procoagulant drivers in cirrhosis.
