Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a disease caused by one of four serotypes of the dengue virus and spread by Aedes mosquitoes. It causes interference with blood vessels and blood clotting, resulting in bleeding. Signs include sudden high fever, severe headaches, joint and muscle pain, and rashes. DHF can progress to dengue shock syndrome which has a high mortality rate if not properly treated. There is no vaccine, so prevention focuses on eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
