In this study, a novel polymeric flame retardant, WLA-3, containing phosphorus both in main chains and side chains has been synthesized. WLA-3 has higher phosphorus content, rich aromatic structure and exhibits high thermal composing temperatures and excellent flame retardancy for PET, epoxy resin and unsaturated polyesters. While WLA-3 improves flame retardancy, the mechanical properties of the polymers remain largely unaffected.
