Every time I think I am done with the undead, they pull me back in. The parallels between the threats posed by the living dead and those posed by more conventional pandemics quickly became clear after the emergence of COVID-19. So clear, in fact, that Jonathan Tepperman at Foreign Policy asked me to write about the similarities and differences. I thank him and Stefan Theil for shepherding that essay along and inspiring me to attempt another edition of this book.
