Beatrice Vio was born in 1997 in Venice, Italy and spent her childhood in Mogliano Veneto. At age 11, she contracted meningitis that led to the amputation of her arms and legs. She took up wheelchair fencing in 2010 and joined the Italian national Paralympic fencing team in 2011. Since 2014, she has won over 70 medals in major competitions including gold at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
