This document describes the optimization of a purge and trap/gas chromatography system for determining volatile aromatic hydrocarbons (BTEX) in water. The system was optimized to improve detection limits for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) in water samples. Seven authors from the University of Zulia in Venezuela worked on optimizing parameters like purge flow, trap temperature, and gas chromatography conditions to efficiently separate and detect BTEX compounds at trace levels in water.
